We are located in Chico, California, next to the CSUC campus. Our mission is to anchor young people in a lifelong journey of Christ-centered, spiritually healthy, Kingdom-oriented growth within the family of God

ONGOING & SEASONAL

A hearty, mostly healthy, home-cooked supper among a few random people in your life stage, a host family, and sometimes their dog. Newbies welcome. Incidentally, Jesus spent lots of time eating with all sorts of people. We’re keeping that tradition and, also like Jesus, leaving a bit of room for the soul (a meaningful conversation, not a study:) No cost. Rides from Chico State’s Laxson Auditorium are available on request (contact email). See events for upcoming College or Career 20’s Table times. See events for upcoming times and details.

Not your grandma’s Bible study (still, we love your grandma). This is a candid conversation on the most controversial, over-analyzed, and inspirational book ever written. If you want to be spoon-fed “the truth” this isn’t for you. If you want to have a deeper conversation in a safe space about an ancient story that inspires, irks, raises inquiries, and gives us the munchies, then welcome.

Good religion involves dirt. We serve a garden farm in South Chico owned by Chico’s Jesus Center. It’s what you’d expect, sweat on your brow and dirt in your nails, but don’t knock the glee of a fresh tomato here or ripe turnip there. One story we like says life began in a garden, so stay off the couch or ditch the gym one morning and spend 90 minutes finding out what farm to table really means, loving the earth, giving back.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO WORK WITH YOUNG ADULTS?

College students and young adults are full of curiosity and energy. I’ve found they long for authentic forms of community, gritty opportunities to serve, and deeper dives into matters of faith. They think outside the box and courageously challenge the status quo. I myself became a committed follower of Jesus precisely during this phase of life and it changed my whole trajectory! It’s a life phase full of wonder and opportunity!

WHY DO YOU THINK COLLEGE MINISTRY IS IMPORTANT?

People in this life stage have remarkable exposure to human diversity and schools of thought. From the standpoint of faith, there is this remarkable opportunity for God to enlarge one’s perspective in a way that leads to greater awe and wonder toward God’s diverse world. That being said, those same college years can lead some to shed their faith like an old High School Letterman Jacket. The difference between owning one’s faith and embracing wonder versus shedding one’s faith comes down to an authentic Christian community, a deeper grasp of Christian faith, and a sense of call toward some aspect of Christian ministry. These are all things the church should do and (in step with the Spirit) can do well!
